Moving forward is one of the hardest lessons I've learned in life. It took a lot of struggle to start looking towards the future and to let go of those who aren't a part of the future. There's so much importance in all that has happened in the past, and I couldn't fathom "turning my back". The phrase "going in different directions" used to scare me. And then a thought comforted me. After many miles alone, many hours in an OR, and a trip to Seattle, I realized I wasn't losing anything. I may be walking forward towards my future, but that doesn't mean I can't take a glance towards the receding road behind me.
All the memories and all the people wait there. They're in the music, in the photos, just waiting for that single moment when I want to be nostalgic. Every song reminds me of a certain person, a certain feeling, a certain moment in life. And those songs always exist and the person comes back into my head, burning clearly like a shooting star in the night sky. I've certainly had to walk different paths than some people and at one point wished that our paths would combine again in the future, but I find peace in the fact that I'll never truly forget even if our paths never converge again.
So here are the songs, the memories, the people that are my past, present, future... etc.
The Hush Sound - You Are the Moon
Streetlight Manifesto - A better place, A better time
Bon Iver - Blindsided

daze
A summer's afternoon reading Shantaram.
Seapony came out with a record LP with 3 songs earlier this year. This song, Blue Star, is off the album Go With Me and newly released as of May 31st. Basically they can be explained by this quote
"Seattle’s Seapony sound like they could have been on a cassette the cops found locked away in Phil Spector’s vault when everything started going wrong. Luckily, this is not another time capsule band produced at gunpoint. The sunny and sad, jangle- ‐pop romance bundled inside “Dreaming” gives the track a foggy, delicately scuffed nostalgia reminiscent of the breezy, honeyed hits of bygone days." – Altered Zones
Ganglians - Valiant Brave
Description: It’s a chorus of voices, a lot of reverb echo, some electronics of the messed up cheap variety, or toy pianos. It’s far away…a little underwater. A lot of noise and yelling, a garage a thon, sounds recorded live in that way that most live stuff doesn’t come close to.
Monsters of Folk - the Right Place
Monsters of Folk is an American supergroup, consisting of Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes, and M. Ward of She & Him. Look them up on Wikipedia to learn more! Alright!
Rainbow Arabia - Without You
Hey these guys are cool! They've been dubbed 4th World Pop due to their representation of various cultures and eras in their music.
