Oh hey. So as I'm sitting in physics looking at Calvin and Hobbes, I was told to update my blog by my roommate Sonia. So as always, you may have heard this songs and maybe not. Who knows? But I like these songs and I'll probably add a new blog during my radio show tonight. Hold tight.

The Dodos is probably one of my favorite bands. It has crazy instrumentals, some epic guitar and sweet sweet vocals and lyrics. All around it is just a pretty badass band that I enjoy listening to. The Dodos consists of Meric Long and Logan Kroeber and combines Long's training in West African Ewe drumming and Kroeber's metal influence to really bring out the guitar and drumming. Seriously will blow your mind. This song, The Season was pretty much the song I listened to whenever I had downtime in my stay in Seattle. If I was listening to music, I was listening to the Dodos. Duh.

Aloe Blacc doesn't have much discography. He's signed with Epic for the UK and Ireland. Youtube, with all its links led me to clicking on his video for "I Need A Dollar" and really it's great. So take a listen. Some background info, he used to be in the group Emanon, but now he's not.



Beach House is a band from Baltimore, Maryland that is more of a chill band, along the lines of Band of Horses... I think. I found them at my radio show last year because we have to play 2 songs every hour from the rack of new cds. Basically epic. They have also been compared to that of Nico, which I know from "The Royal Tenenbaums" by Wes Anderson. Check out These Days by Nico. Listen below to "Norway" by them. The song Zebra is also one of my favorites.



This band, Tennis is just awesome. I myself like to enjoy a good game of tennis, but due to my lack of dedication I'm still just average. But whatever, my racket it badass and it's a good way to just kick it in the summer when I'm not doing research, running, or working. Hollah. Anyways this band actually has this perfect song called marathon, which is really perfect because I play tennis and I've ran a marathon. Check that out! So this band is actually from Denver, well started playing music in Denver. They sailed around, husband and wife, and wrote songs at sea. Basically epic and they are the new thing. I'm telling you.



The Young Coyotes are another Denver band. I'm about to go running so this is going to get short but just listen to them. I'm really pleased with this band. In fact I just used some of my iTunes gift cards to buy their music. This song is called "The Sun Continues to Reach Me"



And because I like all sorts of music, here's some french music for your listening pleasure! Tryo is a french reggae band. This info is copied from Wikipedia because I'm lazy now.


Tryo is a French language 'unplugged' reggae acoustic band, popular in Europe and in Quebec, with three French guitarists, a Latin American percussionist, and a producer: Guizmo, Christophe Mali, Manu Eveno, Daniel "Danielito" Bravo and Bibou.

Tryo are popular in France partly due to their politically charged lyrics, whilst also showing a fun side with a range of humorous songs, especially in live performances.

They take a left wing stance, criticising various French politicians such as Charles Pasqua (named in corruption scandals concerning suburban low cost housing or HLM) and Jean-Marie Le Pen and world leaders (George W. Bush, for example) in their music. The band has a "tolerant" view on cannabis, demonstrated by 'La Main Verte' from the 'Mamagubida' album. Drug references are reduced in their later albums.

Oren Lavie was born in Tel Aviv and grew up in Israel. His video for Her Morning Elegance, song below, is fantastic. 

The Capitol Years is a group from Philadelphia that hit the scene in July 2001. That's really about all the info I have at this point. This song is "You Can Stay There"

A storm is going to come.

It's easy to hear a song and like it instantly. It's easy to find a song via shows, or movies, after someone has already found it. Well this guy I found via la blogotheque in which artists play their songs live. They are called take away shows and most that I've seen were in Paris, France or Lykke Li performed in San Francisco, CA. Well this guy is Piers Faccini and he was born in London, England, making him instantly cooler in my eyes. Check this song out.

This other band, Port O'Brien is an American band that I found easily watching a British show Skins, notorious for good music, good characters, and amazing accents, thanks to Paige for showing me the show. Where would my life be without it? Anyways, this band is indie and just wicked cool.

This next band is a Seattle native group. They were once known as Pretty Girls Make Graves, but are now known as the Cave Singers. I mean this music is funky fresh to the extreme. It might not get much better than this. Could you expect anything less from a band from Seattle, where the music flows like the freaking Puget Sound. It's easy to expect good music to come from Seattle.

If looks could kill

If you know me in the slightest you'll know that I've been obsessed with British music since as long as I can remember, well really just the UK in general. So it won't come as a surprise to know that I knew about a lot of British pop and punk and indie before it really hit the US. My friend Paige can back me up that I really did know about them first before they even got signed in the UK. So what up now?

Anyways this band isn't quite as obscure. In fact it's name is Camera Obscura. Now this is kind of cool because the object camera obscura takes in an image and projects it onto a screen, which was initially what photography was until what has led to user friendly cameras. This band is from Glasgow, Scotland.

On a different note, this band is from Berkeley, California. Their name is the Morning Benders and they blow my mind. I don't know much about them except that I like them and they've played on tours with some of my favorite bands. Ra Ra Riot, We Are Scientists, White Rabbits... the list goes on. They have two albums out and I've mostly just heard songs from their recent album, Big Echo, but all the songs are really good.

This next band is honestly awesome, Broken Bells. It has to be with producer Danger Mouse and James Mercer, the lead singer and guitarist from band the Shins. The two decided to work together after Mercer collaborated with Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse. Broken Bells only has one album, self titled Broken Bells.

Passion is life.

This blog has transformed. I once thought I would talk about my trekking around in nature because I love stuff like that, but turns out I don't really like to write about it. I like to talk about it, but not write about it. Sharing music is something I love. I love knowing a band that someone would love. So here are a few of my favorite bands. Some you'll probably have heard of, and hopefully some you won't and now you'll know and love them. On all the songs you can click on the music player to get the name of the song and download from divshare. Usually the first song listed under good songs for each artist is the song playing.

Probably intermittently I'll post photos. Photography centers me, along with music. There's nothing that really sets my world at peace than trekking out with my camera and my music. Scratch that, watching surgeries and knowing someday I'll practice medicine puts my world at peace, but so does music and pictures. I'm not real knowledgeable about photography but I like it and if I happen to get a picture I think is cool, well then I'm going to post it. Simple.
